Ryan Rouse
My name is Ryan Rouse from Manteca, CA. I was born in Hayward, CA on June 24, 1974. Ever since i can remember, I have always loved music and painting. I still remember sitting with my grandma on Sunday mornings tuned into PBS waiting for that calm talking, shaggy bearded, afro head artistic genius, Bob Ross and "The Joy of Painting" series, and his wonderful "happy trees" and friends. I never did paint along with him as I was more of a little musician though i did pay attention to his techniques. I Joined the US Army in 1998 and traveled around the world all still with out ever picking up a paint brush however, my guitar playing was improving. When the gulf war broke out, I was sent immediately to war and served 3 gruesome combat tours including Iraq and Afghanistan, War Changes People! It is indescribable to put in words and if you survive it , It can be the toughest journey back to reality you ever known. In 2005 I was diagnosed with PTSD and was honorably discharged after over 9 years active service.
Things were different now , I was different now, Lost I felt. Alone. The hell of war took some of my sanity but gave me in exchange a turbo boost of creativity I never had before. I could just spontaneously do things I never would have know I could do! I pick up some old oil paints one day and tried to remember afro mans techniques and styles. Without even thinking I started painting and in a wink of an eye I stared at this canvas wondering when i fell asleep and who finished my painting I started. No one was more amazed than I and people didn't believe (myself included) that I painted it! After that I was hooked, and went out and bought a bunch of Bod Ross supplies and started whip in out paintings left and right. Soon after that, i sat down at a piano one day and started literally play Beethoven on it , I was playing like I always dream I could but couldn't it seem.
