My name is Marty, I am a 43 year old guy who spent 15 years as a salesman, trapped inside showrooms, tied to a work schedule dictated by the retail world, discouraged from being an individual, and denied advancement beyond where others thought I belonged. So one day, I quit my job, started my own business, utilized the contacts I had made as a cog in the retail machine, and have never regretted my decision. Sometimes I still work too many hours, but they are now at my discretion, and when my family needs me, I am there.
I love Mustangs, Harley Davidson's, powerboats, jetskis, and going fast. I grew up in the Colorado rockies and went to college in Eastern Washington where I currently reside, (the state not the capital). I am remarried, to a wonderful woman who is fiercely independant, financially capable, and very creative. She is a talented designer although her profession is statistical programmer in the pharmaceutical industry. (say that fast three times.) She has encouraged me to persue this artistic outlet we all enjoy. We have 4 great kids, 3 in college and one senior in high school. Don't know what we will do in a couple years when we are empty nesters. Well yes I do: Travel, Paint, Ride Rollercoasters, Restore a classic mustang, Build a pergola in the back yard, Entertain more, yeah, we will miss them, but we will be enjoying the freedom as well, lol!
As to how I came to be a spray paint artist, my story is like so many others I have read about. I came across a video on youtube by Brandon McConnell. Although I have never really persued any artistic venue, I was totally enthralled. Since it was winter, I had to wait for warm weather, so I bought some supplies and waited. I have only been painting since summer 2008, but I love it and have learned so much from the sites and videos dedicated to this art form. My wife says I am attending "SPU", (Spray Paint University), online. Believe it or not, I have never seen another person paint like this in person, only online.
