Hey! I'm new here, I have been admiring this website for quite some time and I really like it so alas, I have decided to become a member.
I was just wondering if any of you had any tips for me?
For starters, I use Krylon paint because that was what was suggested to me. I know a lot of you don't like it because of the caps and the paint coming out wrong but since I have only just started I haven't had any experience with the old cans. I don't know how much about that. If there is a better brand of paint out there could someone suggest it to me and possibly where I could find it?
I also use regular poster board, I don't know if that's what everyone uses but I couldn't find an answer to which kind I should use.
I'm not sure if it's the brand of poster board or paint I use but I saw in a previous post that when someone had tried to make a texture it took out too much paint and I realized, a lot of my paintings are just like that. It comes out to be a lot of white or it's too dark or the colors just don't mix well.
Lastly, again I'm not sure if it's because I use Krylon but when I make the shading for pyramids, the paint is really runny. Is this because of the paint or is it because I use a plastic putty knife?
I'd love to hear from you if have any input!

Hi! Welcome!
First off I hate Krypton its a very thin watery paint, there is so little pigment in that paint and the colors just don't pop. RustOleum:painters touch is a far superior paint its thicker and just filled with pigment its a great paint that you can easily find locally most places. If you don't mind buying online, Montana Hardcore and Belton Molotow Premium are both great paints as well. You can buy them here:

As for poster board, anything glossy will work, and if its not glossy spray it with an even layer of glossy clearcoat. it works just as well. Hope this was helpfull!

Colorplace WalMart Brand I have found only to be useful for Water technique as it does not dry out quite as fast but color is not bold. I agree completely with joeslost the Rust-Oleum brand has become my favorite, I have tried a few cans of Valspar if you can find it and is really good too as the percentage of pigment vs solvents is higher and colors do pop, plus you use less therefore are not spending as much. The cheap $1.00 cans I have to probably use a few to equate to 1 can of Rust-oleum or Valspar. Krylon isn't that great I do not like the tips they come with and don't want to hassle with changing or modifying them. Still waiting to try Montana Hard Core or Belton but cannot yet justify the expense for them moment. These come highly recommended from what I have seen/read. Wish you the best of luck post some pics when you get time.

Welcome to spray painting :D
If you need any help or have any questions feel free to ask on the
forum. We're all pretty helpful. Posting pics of your work in the Post
Pictures forum helps us give you advice, so we know what you need to
work on and what you got right from the start... :) Just keep painting.
You'll get better as you go. There's so many techniques and different
kinds of stencils you could make/use that you keep learning new
things with this art.

I use Color Place and Krylon spray paint.
Don't know where you live but I get my poster board either from
walmart or dollar general. Definitely want it to have a glossy side.
