The first one I did a few days ago.
The second one is still drying. Trying out some new techniques now. I find it impossible to scrape the grass and twigs into the painting, though. It ends up looking like crap when I do it. Are there any good videos to show this?

it's one of brandon's, wait for it to load and watch it at 1:40, his tree technique is kool! Looks like he uses a cardstock paper with paint dripping out of it and while using the cardstock to guide it.
At 2:41 he uses a palette knife for the twigs and grass... notice at 1:40 he sprayed white then black on top of that. Then to get the grass/twig effect he scrapes away the black paint with the palette knife.

totally love that purple planet.. I have made many paintings with just planets an no planetside.
then its totally upto you .. I practiced alot to get where I am today. .. just will have to pickup your own technique as you go.
heres one good tip . I use alot of clear spray paint and it helps in the scraping process. I live here in Florida an the paint dries in the air before the paper [kidding] but it sure feels like it. Krylon with that weird nozzle of theirs helps in getting it spread out so it doesnt show so much in the end . you'll see...
